ISSUE 10

Released in February 2001, this issue probably received the most responses per issue to date. This issue, including the cover, actually looks like a magazine, instead of going for the usual haphazard kiddie style, which we usually embrace. In fact, we took our first shot at politics, hitting several different viewpoints. We covered the Philly 2000 RNC, talked about police, and used creative writing to help get a point across. The on-going columns and pages like The TINK’s Ink, Monster Mix, and On the One and Two are more defined, as well as the new ones. Comics were started, and there’s an interview with Philly’s Tapping the Vein. There are tons of new reviews, advertisements, contests, and writing, including a new "Featured Label" section.

This issue is broken down into four parts for you to view and/or download as a pdf

Pages 1 - 7 :::

Cover art by ishii; a strange face-hand creation. Guidelines page, poetry: Andrew Corbett, introduction by me celebrating the 10th issue. There’s a massive two-page spread on the Philadelphia Republican National Convention, with outstanding pictures by Brian Connor, and complimenting text by me. Pages 8 - 13 :::

A full page of Victory Records reviews with an Earth Crisis ad, then two large columns, one on why "Club Blue" shut down, and another on my friend Laura getting beat up by the cops at 4 am. Next page is "The TINK’s Ink", with his top 40 various metal chart, and a behind-the-scenes report on Philly’s "Wing Bowl". Eeeww… There’s an interview with Philly goth-metal band "Tapping The Vein", done by me, as well as "Monster Mix"- a hip-hop section featuring a Mikah Troy Nine article, and "On the One and Two", with top tens by DJ Ferret, Fraz, Nikolai, DJ Xero, and Epyon. There’s an ad for Rich’s poetry open mike.

"Other" reviews, of weird things that you’ll just have to see for yourself, new Sonicstream Records info. A stupid-on-purpose full page "Wawa" story written by me, ads by Between Books and Fat Ricks, comics by Moxie and Douglas Pope Wilson, zine reviews, the continuing Riggins saga, and two full page ads from Philly’s Dancing Ferret Wednesdays at Shampoo and Ohio zine "Tastes Like Chicken".

ISSUE 9

"Le Tric!" As you can tell by the name, this issue is fairly light and humorous. It’s got a great androgynous cover shot, hence the name. There’s a super-long interview with DE punk producer Nick Rotundo, a load of reviews, some rants about society, short stories, "On the One and Two"- a new DJ top ten section, a Burning Man article, and a really funny mock "Man On the Street". It’s 28 pages, and I ran 3500 copies, which I feel is going to be a comfort zone for a while. I seperated most of the music from the writing. I’m still trying to figure out how to do that comfortably. The printers accidentally switched two pages, and we had some font problems. Overall, a great issue, though. I give up on listing the reviews for you. This is broken down into 5 parts for you to view and/or download as a PDF:

Pages 1 - 7 :::

Front cover: Our official "Le Tric" super model, posing in the name of monosexuality. The inside cover and facing pages contain a short rant by me, a Jade Tree ad, a Southern Records ad, and the Jam n’ Java open mic ad. Then on, up to page 7 is the Nick Rotundo interview, which is basically Newark, DE band gossip from over the past five years. Complimented artwork by Green and Mark Rosenblatt.

Pages 8 - 11 :::

Mostly reviews of music by me and Jon Balog, and "Monster Mix", a new review section by Gentle Jones dedicated to hip-hop. There’s an in-depth movie review of "Ghost Dog" by Merk of Cinema Video. A full page Less than Jake ad, courtesy of Fat Wreck Chords, and a photo of a Jesus statue by Brian Connor.

Pages 12 - 16 :::

"The Whole Chalupa" a great rant by Jack McCarthy, from Massachusetts. More CD and 7" reviews, Teen Idols and Swingin’ Utters ads, Queen Bean Café and Comic Book Shop ads (local), and "On The One and Two", a DJ top ten section. Some more reviews.

Pages 17 - 21 :::

More reviews by me and Chris Trojak. Poem: "Election 2000" by Beverly Andrus. Dischord ad. The TINK’s Ink. "Man On the Street" by Rich Boucher. Title and guidelines page (switched by the printers- oops!)

Pages 22 - 28 :::

"Cognitive and the Wheels", section dedicated to words and writing. Grant Schuler, Jon Balog, Jared Schierbaum, Jeffery K. Thomas, Yvette Tucker, Michelle Kramer, "Burning Man" article w/ photos by Sarah Tweddle, Continuation of "The Last Man" by Lowen Howard and Thomas Prettyman, funny story about different Ch.24s in books by Jeremy. Complimenting art by Meg Brown and Jacki Sharp.
Back cover: "Nocturne", Dancing Ferret goth/industrial Wednesdays at Shampoo.

ISSUE 8

Issue seven's layout went well, so I decided to stick with that, but make it a little less silly. Released in early August 2000, the number of copies stayed the same (3000), as did the number of pages (24). The cover is very cryptic, and some features include an atombombpocketknife interview, return of the TINKÕs Ink, and Rich vs. Scott continues. There are many new writers in addition to the old ones including new album reviewers, and some stories are now going to run over a course of several issues.

This issue is broken down into four parts for you to view and/or download as a pdf.

Pages 1 - 7 :::

The front cover: Europa logo design by Sarah Tweddle. The inside cover features a raffle contest and questionnaire on tric. It is then followed by the title page, which expresses guidelines, new additions, ad rates, etc. There is also a poem, " HistoryÕs Ereignis", by Matt Zeisberg on that page. Jeff Green shows off some artwork, with a subtitle done by me. Instead of a progress section, I give a rant on specific issues called "Leftovers in the Fridge", which is mostly about the zine. Also featured is the Atombombpocketknife interview by me, followed by other Southern band reviews: Dianogah and Sweep the Leg Johnny. There are some great ads.

Pages 8 - 13 :::

Pages: 8-13 The rant: "Rich vs. Scott"- The Battle for Newark is continued, with an intro by me, both sides reprinted, condensed, followed by some bizarre responses sent in to me on the matter; art: Mark Rosenblatt. Reviews: Voltaire by Jon Balog, Daze Alone by Joseph Clipper, Ozzfest 2000 by me. The TINKÕs Ink: underground metal radio and reviews, full Polterchrist review (death metal). There are scattered plugs, and ads.

Pages 14 - 18 :::

Review section by me with record label and band ads. There is continuing story: "The Last Man", by Thomas D. Prettyman. Other reviews: Good Riddence, J Church by Justin Wonka, Bluetip by me. There is a local artist bio: Jacki Sharp (2 pics and a plug). There are also scattered plugs and ads.

Pages 19 - 24 :::

Mostly writing and poety: "Tales of Eva": Yvette Tucker, "Villain": JC, "Missing the Value of Uselessness": Shawn OÕ Neill, "Bohemia": Sarah Aileen, "Lines in a Room": Dayglo Farie, "Dark Love": Jared Schierbaum, "The Falling Tower": Jon Balog, Non-fiction and complimenting photos: Brian Connor, plus movie reviews by me. The back cover is an ad for JulietteÕs weekly gothic club events at Evolution and Transit, and also has an ad for Session, DelawareÕs only weekly drum nÕ bass event.

ISSUE 7

By the time this issue was released in May 2000, the word was out. Distribution was brought up to 3000, and the content was 24 pages. The name had officially changed to "tric", and I was actually getting promos and ads from record labels like Sub Pop, Fat Wreck Chords, Victory, and others were interested. I was able to get an interview with Marcus of Zen Guerrilla, and the poetry, art, and ad submissions were flowing in.

This issue is broken down into four sections for you to view and/or download as a pdf.

Pages 1 - 6 :::

The front cover is a fun drawing of a small man shouting into a large microphone, by Mark Rosenblatt, and I made the logo in AutoCAD. Followed is the title page, with guidelines, new additions, ad rates, etc. I give a small sermon in the "progress section". The local artist review features Brian Connor, written by me, and shows two of BrianÕs photos. Poems include: "This Ghostly Tale Before Me": Tim Anderson, "For AnyoneÉfor anything": Chris Sommers. This issue is also proud to interview Marcus Durant of Zen Guerrilla. There are scattered reviews, plugs, and ads.

Pages 7 - 12 :::

Features The TINKÕs Ink, which hosts his top 40 spins on his college radio metal show, metal reviews, and pictures of Henry Rollins and some wrestling. Complimenting a drawing by Mark Adams is a poem I wrote called "Parallelogram". A short, abstract story is featured, "Dreaming in a Rainbow Purgatory", by Nathan Smith. There are poems, "You": Douglas Morea, and "zzyzzxx" by Aaron McEvoy. ThereÕs a funny picture of the Toilet Boys, and there are scattered positive and negative reviews by Jon Balog and me, plugs, and ads.

Pages 13 - 18 :::

Features two rants, the main one being "Rich Vs. Scott": The Battle For Newark, an argument on whether kids should be allowed to hang out or not, followed by a short rant by me. The other main one is a general rant called "An Important Reminder", by Mogel. There is some short fiction: "Tales of Eva", by Yvette Tucker, and "From A Fly", by Shawn OÕ Neill. Reviews by Casey. Again, there are ads, plugs, and such.

Pages 19 - 24 :::

Mostly poetry: "The Passing": Kaia Wong, "DevilÕs Daughter": Jared Schierbaum, "The Beat of Tragedy": Jon Balog, "PandoraÕs Playground": The Goddess Ra, "Pieces of a Puzzle": Jeffery K. Thomas. The fiction is: "Potentials: Storm", by Rasool McCutchen. Pictures and Photos by: ishii, Steve Gabrysh, Jackie Sharp, and Brian Connor. Again, there are reviews, ads, plugs, and such. The back cover features a full Dancing FerretÕs DraculaÕs Ball ad.

ISSUE 6

Released in March 2000, this was again a turning point for me. The heavy response to issue 5 made me more inclined to play with detail, and I increased my copies to 1500, and pages to 20. The sad cover gave an air of honesty, and I began getting more submissions, and was able to actually start giving assignments.

This one is broken down into three sections for you to view and/or download as a pdf.

Pages 1 - 7 :::

The front cover simply says "Some People", and has an old wood etching of a girl crying in front of piano. The title page follows, with guidelines, new additions, ad rates, etc. I conduct an introductory rant, "The Progress Section", highlighting my thoughts on the genesis of tric/renaissance. Aaron McEvoy produced my first assignment, a detailed review of the band "The Make Up". There are original photos of the band by our friend, Brian Connor. Featured next is local artist/photographer Jeff Green: an article written by Jeff and me, and it includes 3 of Jeff's images/pictures. Also included are some reviews by me, lots of silly filler, and, of course, the ads.

Pages 8 - 13 :::

Consists mainly of a four-page story I wrote, "Everybody's Little Sister", a true story about a friend's recent heroin overdose, and how life is so hectic. Jacki Sharp and Mark Rosenblatt donated pictures to compliment the story. Also included are the poems: "The Fun House Mirror": Jeffrey K. Thomas, and "Smoke Signals": Amy Eyre. Included are ads and plugs for bands, record labels, cafes, and more.

Pages 14 - 20 :::

Features an interview with Kevin Thomas of the local band "Spindrift" by me. The poems are: "Running Wild": Pome Kalayeh, "A Walk with God": Rich Boucher, and "I Love Lucy": Douglas Morea. I review the Starflyer 59 show at the Wild Child. The ads and plugs are great, including a full page for the Ground Floor. The back cover is features Kuru Toccata: The Insulin EP, and says, "Wake Up Delaware!" and has a sine wave under it.

ISSUE 5

Released in January of 2000, this was the first issue produced on newsprint. It ran 1000 copies, and consists mostly of poetry and short stories. The contributors were sincerely ecstatic, though many outsiders were a little dissatisfied with the layout, and didn't think it moved fast enough. Personally, I agree, but that's how you learn, right? I still look back at it, and the quirky, unprofessional set-up definitely charms me.

I've broken its sixteen pages down into three sections for you to view and/or download as a pdf.

Pages 1 - 5 :::

Consists of the front cover I made mostly from an old sci-fi book. I call it: "Robot Stud". The title page holds the guidelines, new additions, ad rates, etc. Also included are a few poems: "Fear of Renaissance": Jeffery K. Thomas, "These Orbs": Daniel Grey, and "How To", by me. There are a few ads, and a picture called "Coral", by Steve Gabrysh.

Pages 6 - 11 :::

s the gut of the zine, and it has includes the poems: "Backwards Mask": Rich Boucher, and "Slowness": Aaron McEvoy. The short story is called: "If I Could Have Lunch With Any Famous Person In History" by Ashtray Heart. It's about taking Jesus out to buy progressive rock and constantly saying the word "dude". The rant is called: "Interlaced Space" by Mogel. It's pretty general, and very funny and sarcastic. There are also pictures by Steve Gabrysh called "Dreamscape" and "Juniper", and some short reviews by me, plus some ads for bands and cafes.

Pages 12 - 16 :::

Gets you a tongue-in-cheek rant by me: "If I Were On The Real World", and a couple of poems: "Ghost Stars Ghost": Owen Jackson, and "The Daywalker": JC. There are various ads for bands and such. The back cover is a full-page ad for the still functioning weekly: Dancing Ferret Wednesdays at Shampoo: "Nocturne".
